LI: To write a narrative from the point of view of a baby owl on its fist flight

Today for this task Mrs. Anderson read us a book called ‘First Flight’ by June Crebbin. After that, we talked amongst each other about how the story is told from the narrator’s perspective, or point of view. We also used a tool called a Gemini Gem to help us think more about what the story would be like if it was told from the first person point of view, meaning the narrator is talking about their own experiences. I liked using the Gemini Gem because it gave me ideas to add more detail and make my writing longer. Here is the story

The sun was going down and disappeared behind the uneven line of the horizon, leaving the sky to be filled with the soft light of the moon. That night was a big moment for me because it was the first time I was going to try flying. I felt very nervous, and a tight feeling in my chest made me feel anxious. Suddenly, a strong gust of wind blew and almost made me fall off my spot. I grabbed onto the rough piece of wood with my talons, holding on as tight as I could, feeling like I might break from all the fear inside me. I looked at my friends, who were already flying smoothly under the bright, white moon. That made me start to question myself, what if I can’t fly like they do? What if I never learn how to fly at all?

As I looked down at the dark woods far below. High above, my friends were beautiful. They glided and soared under the glow of the giant moon, looking so free. I wanted to join them, but a strange, shaky feeling started deep in my stomach. It was not a good feeling. It grew and grew until my whole body began to tremble. My knees knocked together, and my feet slipped on the rough wood. I gripped the bark tightly, terrified that I was about to fall off the branch. As I was just sitting there shaking, dark thoughts started to creep in. I began to doubt everything to myself, it felt like there was something wrong with me. I just wanted to be like everyone else, I only just wanted to be normal.
As I was alone gripping onto the wood, my mother glared at me as I was sad sitting alone on the branch. She flew right to me and asked what was wrong? I responded why and she said believe in yourself and also said it is just a leap of faith.

After a while I decided I cant be scared anymore, soon after I decided that I am going to jump and then “I did” I jumped spreaded my wings and glided in the night sky just like my friends I was having so much fun while soaring around all night until morning I had fun that night, that night I learnt lots of things something big I learnt was I can finally rely on myself and trust my ability to figure something out as I go, also I discovered my true authentic self without what anxiety expects of me and one last thing I overcame my fear and also brings a new chapter in my life with a new me.

Narrative writing

The sun sets as the moon arises. I say to myself (I am so happy for my first time to fly) looking at my surroundings other owls call out my name to go fly with them. As I look down at the dark shadows below me I hear some squirrels down at the atmosphere. The little owlette’s eyes wide with curiosity, decided it wants to fly. The harsh wind blew, crisp and frosty, as the sun began to set, my talons grip loosened, the branch suddenly feeling slippery, my heart stopped for a little bit as my grip fades away. As I will be jumping off and soaring through the air tonight. My feathers seem to curl up, keeping me warm from the chilly breezes. My heart started thumping quickly, as I glanced at the dark forest below, a gust of wind blew over me smelling like dead trees through the wind.

I can’t bring myself to jump, the nerves take over my body. I’m petrified , unable to move, feeling a tingly sensation overcome my body. The height makes my stomach drop.

Trying to fly is really terrifying, especially when looking down,  just pitch black with trees coming out of the darkness. It’s a bit hard to tell how far the ground is because of how high I am, that’s also why it’s scary. So I decided to practice flying by standing on my nest and extending my astounding wings as I attempted a jump that was from my nest, to a long piece of wood. As i kept practicing and practicing, over and over again i gathered up the courage to jump from my nest to the ground

I muster up all the courage I can, looking at the ground that threatens to claim me. With one final sharp breath I jump, a whoosh of air following me as I spread my majestic wings, flapping them marvelously, as I fly over the long blades of grass, and all of the bodies of water spread across the broad forest.

Mrs Anderson read us the book ‘First Flight’ by June Crebbin. We talked about the narrators point of view and used a Gemini Gem to prompt us to think more deeply about what the story might look like when told in the first person. I enjoyed using the Gem because it helped me understand grammar, and to not mix past tense with present tenses.

Social Influence

For our latest class project, we were tasked with working in pairs to explore the digital world. Naturally, I teamed up with my best friend. We decided to dig into a topic that hits home for all of us: how social media influencers actually affect our real-world lives.

It’s easy to think that following a creator is just about watching funny challenges or gaming clips, but it goes way deeper than that. We did some research into how these creators shift from making videos to building massive business empires that change what we buy, eat, and talk about.

The “Prime” Effect

One of the biggest examples we looked at was Prime Hydration. You’ve definitely seen it—Logan Paul and KSI used their massive global reach to turn a simple sports drink into a worldwide phenomenon.

Because they have such a loyal “army” of fans, they were able to make Prime a status symbol. It’s not just about staying hydrated; it’s about being part of the hype. This brand makes millions of dollars in sales every single day, proving that an influencer’s face on a bottle is sometimes more powerful than a TV commercial.

Snacks, Burgers, and Cookies

It doesn’t stop with drinks. We found that this “Influencer Economy” is everywhere:

  • MrBeast: He didn’t just stop at YouTube stunts. He launched Feastables and Beast Burger. By using his reputation for being the “best” at everything, he convinced millions of people to swap their usual snacks for his.

  • Pokimane: Even in the gaming and streaming world, influencers like Pokimane are branching out. She launched Midnight Mini Cookies, showing that even niche creators can influence what their followers choose to eat during a late-night gaming session.

Why This Matters to Us

Our project (and our DLO) highlighted that these creators aren’t just entertainers anymore—they are business moguls. They have a massive impact on our daily choices. Whether it’s the clothes we wear or the snacks we grab at the convenience store, we are constantly being influenced by the people we follow on our phones.

Next time you see a creator launching a new product, ask yourself: Am I buying this because I need it, or because my favorite creator told me it’s cool?

Life in an annex

We are reading the book ‘Diary of Anne Frank’. Mrs Anderson created a Gemini Gem to prompt us to think more deeply about what life would have been like in the annex, what we felt and why we felt that way.

I enjoyed using the Gem because it helped me improve my grammar, and gave me constructive criticism also giving ideas on how to make the words have more feel and emotion towards them at the same time. Gem also helped with my self esteem by giving me compliments on what I did good.

Here is a text I wrote in minutes, the bold words are the words we were required to use.

During the year of 1942 Jewish people in Amsterdam were seen as “not human” so they had to hide from German police officers in a place named an annex to avoid being put in a concentration camp. Some people like Anne Frank used a diary to prove how hard the Germans were making their lives.

The annex (a secret hiding place for the Jewish people) was quiet except for the not very silent creaking wooden planks beneath their feet. The reason they had to hide during World War 2 (1942) was because the Germans persecuted them because of their religion. The annex was pretty basic but had a very unique and complex entry, although inside it was very cramped, but one girl by the name of Anne Frank entered a lot of valuable information into her diary that helped us understand the life these people would’ve been living in an annex.

Subtraction

This week our main focus in maths was subtraction using algorithms, so we could get a deeper understanding of it. To do subtraction algorithm it is harder to understand but once you get the hang of it is flawless. Have  a look at the DLO me and my group made to help people get a better and deeper understanding!

Ko wai au

Kia ora, my name is Jenesis and this year is my last year at Panmure Bridge School. I am excited to play sports this year since I broke my leg in November 2025. I like playing football with my friends. I am also excited to learn about maths and writing because my use of punctuation is not good. My goal for this year is to have more confidence when it comes to speaking to people.

AI Movie

LI: To use our knowledge about dinosaurs in creative ways

We were given 2 create challenges to help us show our learning in creative and fun ways. Create Challenge 1:Use ADOBE Express to generate an image about each dinosaur on your completed sheet. You can not use their name – only the facts you have gathered. Create Challenge 2: Use https://hailuoai.video to create AI films showing 3 of your dinosaurs in their natural habitat.I enjoyed these challenges because i got to explore how to use AI to crteate a video.

Procedural Text

LI: To create a procedural text to tell someone how to do something using a  sequence of  steps, instructions or actions in a particular order.

Our challenge was to work in our dinosaur research pairs create a prototype of our dinosaur’s skeleton. The challenge was to make teh skeleton of our dinosaur and record the steps we followed.  Once we had our first prototype we revised and adapted both the prototype and the instructions. We used the language features found in a procedural text to help us write clear instructions so that another pair could follow our instructions and create our prototype. I think this activity was fun because I got to explain how to make a dinosaur out of paper.

RISE UP: The Story of the Dawn Raids and the Polynesian Panthers

LI: To evaluate (form an opinion) the text and respond to the provocation

We read the text RISE UP: The Story of the Dawn Raids and the Polynesian Panthers and asked to create a DLO that explores and discusses both perspectives of this historical event in our groups.Something I found interesting about this text was i never thought that New Zealand could be this racism.
